SANTO DOMINGO - Grupo Piñero, a Spanish tourism company with almost 50 years of history, was awarded in the first edition of the National Tourism Award in the Dominican Republic, in the category of Social Welfare, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and the environment.
Since 2015, Grupo Piñero has been working to incorporate environmental, social and ethical criteria into its business strategy, convinced of the need for a solid management model based on social, environmental and governance (ESG) criteria.
As a result, the company is committed to a sustainable tourism model, and has a roadmap towards sustainability in the communities where it operates.
The recognition highlighted the Group's contributions to the development and growth of the communities, contributing to the strengthening of each of the demarcations, which marks only the starting point towards a future with more sustainable tourism, promoting projects that, together with government authorities and other allies, will support the preservation and care of the Dominican Republic.

Jesús Durán, CEO of Grupo Piñero in the country, expressed his satisfaction that the entity he represents in the Dominican Republic can be recognized through these awards, whose efforts are the product of combined efforts between the private and public sectors and that benefit Dominican tourism.
“And the fact that we have been selected as winners in a category with such an impact as Social Welfare makes us proud of every program, volunteer, and resource that we as a Group have invested for the benefit of this land,” he concluded.
Regarding the action plan
From an economic and social point of view, the objective of this tourism company is to promote the recovery and growth of the sector and of course, of the country, through a socially responsible investment plan, mainly aimed at the renovation of some of its assets or emblematic hotels, such as the Cayo Levantado Resort Project.
This is with the firm objective of continuing to offer the best experiences to customers through innovation and constant improvement of products and services with high quality standards.
And from the environmental field , special mention should be made of the "Comprehensive Coastal Management Plan", a project that aims to guarantee the sustainable management of natural resources .
The company aims to "protect, conserve, and plan for 100% of its natural capital" by 2030. Furthermore, Grupo Piñero continues to strengthen its energy efficiency plan and its sustainable mobility plan to advance its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint by 60% by 2030. This is in addition to its strategic circular economy plan, which will optimize resource management and guarantee zero waste to landfill.
