Osman González: I don't know any other way to do things than through a frank, transparent conversation and looking people in the eye

He arrived in Punta Cana enticed by a culinary project with some cousins from his native Venezuela. And although things didn't work out as Osman González had hoped, he decided to stay in the Dominican Republic, adhering to his favorite motto: "giving up is not an option.".

His extensive academic background eased the path for the architect, a graduate of the Central University of Venezuela, who was hired as a quality auditor to establish standards and procedures for several companies, until he arrived at Civilmek in 2018 as commercial director, a position he holds to this day and where he has felt right at home due to his years of experience in the real estate and construction sectors.

Osman had visited the country when his father, Guido González, was Venezuelan consul in the government of Hipólito Mejía and his mother, Ana de González, was president of the diplomatic ladies.

He was always drawn to the similarities between the two nations, and he fell in love with the landscape and the local people. He has already put down roots here through his young daughter Amanda, 6, whom he had with his wife Isabel Soto.

Osman González loves the Dominican people's human qualities. (Fidel Pérez/El Inmobiliario).

In the real estate world, Osman González is synonymous with human qualities and values. “I learned those values from my family, then I trained as a coach, and that transformed how I recognize myself and how I value the person in front of me,” he explains.

And although the warmth of the Dominican Republic has embraced him for 8 years, he misses his roots, his parents, his daughters María Laura and María Gabriela, and his brother from his beloved Venezuela.

This affectionate man exudes kindness. When it comes to choosing a friend, however, this Venezuelan, now Dominicanized, prefers to be selective. Life, time, and the years have taught him to be cautious.

Having grown up in the world of personal growth, he understands that human beings have different perspectives, “we listen differently and there is nothing that dialogue cannot resolve. I don't know any other way to do things than through a frank, transparent conversation and looking each other in the eye.”.

A year ago, Osman was appointed director of the Association of Real Estate Agents and Companies (AEI), East Zone, where he visits 1 or 2 real estate agencies every week, promoting the organization.

She shares her philosophy on connecting with clients through the workshop “Connect with Your Client,” which addresses the emotional bond between people when managing their desires. “But especially in the real estate sector, because for many people this is their life's largest investment, so connecting and building trust is key to sales success,” González points out.

He says he always gets involved, giving a personal touch to the final sale of a property, or what he calls "effective closing," with the help of a support team and allied real estate agents.

"That's where people end up saying yes, this is it, more than the project itself. When you make the connection and build trust, that's the key to getting the client to say yes.".

His recipe: Show transparency without pressure, speak frankly, and find a hook that connects. He recounts that he once had a foreign client with a seemingly difficult temperament. Being observant, he noticed the client was wearing a cap of their shared favorite baseball team, and that's how he broke the ice. Today, they maintain a friendship.

Writing a book is one of Osman González's pending tasks. It will be an autobiography documenting his experiences in Brazil, the United States, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela—ports of call for him. And when we ask him if he's staying in the Dominican Republic, he answers without hesitation, "For eternity." "In fact," he adds, "I've already started the naturalization process.".
