Onesvie reports securing Jet Set wreckage for structural forensic analysis; death toll rises to 222

The Darío Concretas Traumatological Hospital reported last night the death of the 222nd victim of the Jet Set nightclub collapse.

SANTO DOMINGO. – The National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie) reported last night, Friday, April 11, 2025, that it has collected all the debris and equipment resulting from the collapse of the Jet Set nightclub.

A press release from the agency highlights that the items are being safeguarded as part of the technical and investigative process that will allow for the precise determination of the factors that caused the collapse of the structure.

He specified that these materials are currently being analyzed by a team of experts as part of the preparation of the building's forensic report. "This report will be key to determining and clarifying the possible causes of the tragedy, in compliance with the protocols established by the competent authorities.".

Victim 222

A 35-year-old woman died on Friday night while hospitalized at the Darío Contreras Traumatological Hospital, after being injured in the collapse of the roof of the Jet Set nightclub early Tuesday morning. 

The information was released by the National Health Service (NHS) through a press release, without specifying the identity of the young woman. 

The health institution specified that this is the first death in a center of the Public Network.

"This is a patient whose prognosis was reserved, after presenting with complete cervico-lumbar and vertebro-medullary trauma, in addition to multiple fractures," the press release states.

The team

In the first stage of the analysis, more than 30 people are involved, although the other organizations and specialists that will join the investigation have not yet been specified.

the Executive Branch ordered the formation of a team of national and international experts to conduct a technical study to determine the causes of the tragedy that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 8, with the collapse of the roof at the Jet Set nightclub, which has claimed the lives of 220 people.

“This technical study will be conducted with complete transparency and with full respect for the independence of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the competent body in matters of investigation to determine the steps to follow in the field of justice,” declared Homero Figueroa, spokesman for the Presidency.

He said that with the creation of this commission, the Government begins the search for answers that will allow the whole country to know what caused this tragedy "without falling into hasty judgments", and to be able to prevent and strengthen safety standards.

“As a government, this is the time to clarify and act with prudence. Today is a time to support, to offer comfort, to respond with composure. From the heart and soul of a nation in mourning, we reaffirm our commitment to the life of every Dominican,” added the Director of Strategy and Communication for the Presidency.

The team will be coordinated by the National Office for Seismic Evaluation of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie).
