New RD$1,000 and RD$2,000 banknotes will be in circulation, the Central Bank reports

SANTO DOMINGO. – Starting next Monday, June 17th of this year, the new RD$2,000 and RD$1,000 banknotes from 2023 will be in circulation in the country, according to the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD).

The agency explained that these new banknotes contain the same security features as those currently in circulation and “will maintain their legal tender status for the payment of all public and private obligations.”.

On the front of both banknotes, on the lower left side, near the security strip, is the year 2023.

The production of the banknotes was ordered through an international public tender.

This year, 2024, the Central Bank has been publishing the issuance of banknotes of various denominations with the year 2023, starting with RD$50, RD$100, RD$200 and RD$500. The same applies to the RD$5 and RD$10 coins.

Although these new banknotes are in circulation, those from previous years remain valid.
