SANTO DOMINGO - The director of the Airport Department (DA), Víctor Pichardo, conducted a supervisory tour of the progress in the construction and renovation of three heliports located in Santo Domingo and in the province of Monte Plata, which will become part of the National Heliport Network (RNH) project, which the institution is carrying out for emergency cases.
During the inspection, which began at the heliport being built at the Dr. Evangelina Rodríguez Perozo Health City in Santo Domingo Norte, Pichardo highlighted the characteristics of this project and the important contribution it represents within the framework of the National Heliport Network, as it will allow for rapid arrival and timely care in cases of hospital emergencies and disaster situations.
“The most important thing about this infrastructure, which is already ninety percent complete, is that it is being built on land where four important hospitals are located, especially in the case of the Ney Arias Lora Hospital, which makes it a fundamental element for the country's hospital emergency system,” he explained while speaking alongside the director of the traumatology hospital, Julio Landrón.
He indicated that the heliport consists of a 406-square-meter elevated platform, capable of operating at night or in low-visibility conditions, thanks to a modern aeronautical lighting system activated by radio frequency. The structure also includes a patient elevator for stretchers and a ramp for people with disabilities, making it a practical and accessible facility.
Referring to the heliport being built at the Monte Plata Provincial Hospital, which is now complete, Pichardo pointed out that this initiative “is part of President Luis Abinader’s vision to guarantee health to all citizens throughout the national territory, through a transformation of the emergency and hospital system in general.”.
Regarding the Santo Domingo Heliport, the DA director was able to observe during the tour the completion of the construction work on the perimeter fence, a requirement to offer greater guarantees to operational safety, as well as a new parking area.
Pichardo was accompanied on the tour by a DA technical team including Christiern Broberg, Director of Airport Design; Alfredo Aybar, Head of Infrastructure; Rafael Duarte, Head of Airport Supervision; Vianca Matos, Head of Project Supervision, among others. The engineers in charge of the project were also present.
