SANTO DOMINGO. – Administrative offices, the rector's office, the vice-rector's office, the University Foundation, and student services areas will be the divisions of the new building to be constructed at the Catholic University of Santo Domingo (UCSD); at a cost of 90 million pesos.
The construction firm Arquiestudio Polanco will be responsible for building the modern, four-story building. Its president, architect Isaac Polanco, reported that the building is a project conceived based on the academy's need to house its administrative offices in one location.
“We defined a program of needs, which would be the future spaces that the university will have and how it can be conceived with what they have today. From these needs, an architectural program was generated with the relationship of the things that this new building should have,” he said.
Polanco announced that the design of the first floor will include the reception, lobby, rector's office, financial area, communication support, among others, and two levels were left available for future growth of the university.
“A third level that can be managed so that this prestigious institution can have future growth, and the fourth is planned as an area for events,” the professional added.
The architect stated that this “is a completely contemporary, modern, transparent, and crystallized project that allows us to express the university in all its operational aspects.” “We understood that the most suitable location for the construction of this building is the main road, which will allow easy access for visitors seeking information,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Yolanda Regalado, Director of Registration at UCSD, reported that by implementing the improvement plan of this Alma Mater, which arises as a result of the institutional self-evaluation, the areas of Registration, Admissions, Collections and Academic Guidance will be in the same place with new reengineering.
“I am very excited about the future of the university. The quality of an institution has a lot to do with its infrastructure, and given the growth that this prestigious institution has had and will continue to have, it is necessary, specifically, to improve the archive spaces,” Regalado said.
He said that a layout is being considered for each of these areas, tailored to their specific nature and the functions of their staff: “This project also includes the digitization of the entire Registry inventory, thereby streamlining services. As preventative measures, fire safety systems, cameras, and everything necessary to minimize potential disasters are planned for these areas,” he emphasized.
Ramón Benito Ángeles expressed his satisfaction with the completion and modification of the Catholic University and thanked everyone for their presence at the event, in which the first groundbreaking ceremony took place.
