SANTO DOMINGO - The Dominican Republic's Association of Multiple Banks (ABA) urged citizens to use alternative channels, which will be functioning normally, such as mobile apps, online banking, ATMs, and customer contact centers, in light of the closure of branches due to Tropical Storm Franklin.
The organization that represents the country's commercial banks issued a statement yesterday detailing that, given the imminent passage of Tropical Storm Franklin through the national territory, branches would close their operations starting at noon on Tuesday.
He detailed the schedules and services of the banking entities and called on citizens to follow the official instructions.
The banking sector stated that it prioritizes the safety of employees and financial customers, and therefore all banks are operating on reduced hours this Tuesday, as mandated by the Executive Branch through decree 380-23. It noted that, prior to the presidential decree, the Superintendency of Banks had issued a circular allowing for more flexible operating hours at financial institutions.
In this regard, the ABA explained that service at branches and offices located in shopping centers would be available to the public until noon on Tuesday, the 22nd, while adhering to all necessary precautions to safeguard the well-being of individuals. They also stated that there would be no work on Wednesday, the 23rd.
The banking association explained in the document that, as mandated by the Central Bank, ACH transfers will be available until noon this Tuesday. After that time, the transaction will be processed, and the recipient will receive the funds on Thursday, the 24th of this month. Meanwhile, Instant Payments will be available to the public from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., it noted.
The union called on citizens to follow official bulletins and the guidance of relief agencies, with the hope that this atmospheric phenomenon will affect the Dominican Republic as little as possible, and especially the most vulnerable sectors.
