SANTO DOMINGO – Star Seeker for the first time on January 18. The vessel is designed for high-end tourism. Its arrival is part of the official January program, a month in which the country expects more than 120 international cruise ships, according to the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM).
The institution highlighted that this flow of vessels is part of the country's high cruise season, which runs from November to April and concentrates the most important operations of the main shipping companies in the Caribbean.
In an institutional communication, APORDOM reported that the Star Seeker will dock for the first time at the port of Taíno Bay, in Puerto Plata , from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., which represents a milestone within the arrival schedule of the month.
According to information from the cruise website and data provided by Windstar Cruises, the Star Seeker is the first ship built from scratch by the company in over 30 years. It was officially launched on January 15, 2026, in Miami, after completing its maiden voyage from Malaga in late 2025.
Prices
The specialized portal indicates that prices for traveling on the Star Seeker vary depending on the route: Caribbean itineraries start at around USD 3,450 , while routes to Alaska exceed USD 5,000, and transoceanic trips start from USD 4,199 per person.
The vessel was built at the WestSea shipyards in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. Originally conceived as an expedition ship named World Seeker , Windstar acquired the project and transformed it into a boutique yacht focused on offering privacy, comfort, and access to exclusive destinations.
The Star Seeker can accommodate 224 passengers and has a crew of 135, allowing for highly personalized service. It features 112 suites, all with ocean views, and 102 of them include private balconies or floor-to-ceiling infinity windows.
Ability
Its key technical features include a length of 131.5 meters, a gross tonnage of 9,315 tons, and an operating speed ranging from 12 to 16 knots. Its compact size allows it to access smaller ports where larger cruise ships cannot operate.
Amenities
Onboard, passengers will find five dining options, including the new fusion restaurant Basil + Bamboo and the classic Amphora. The ship also features the fleet's first two-level spa, a water sports platform, and a panoramic Jacuzzi at the bow.
In terms of technology, Windstar Cruises highlights that the Star Seeker is equipped with Rolls-Royce Tier III hybrid engines, shore power systems to eliminate emissions in port, and an ice-strengthened hull, allowing it to navigate in polar regions. It also features forward-facing sonar and pump-jet for precise maneuvering.
After its season in the Caribbean, the Star Seeker will continue on to Alaska, then to Japan and later to Southeast Asia, as part of its 2026 international schedule.
Jean Luis Rodríguez, director of APORDOM, highlighted that the arrival of the Star Seeker adds to the visits of ships from lines such as Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian, MSC, Celebrity, Costa, Princess and Virgin Voyages, which generates a direct impact on the local economy, commerce and tourist excursions.
