JAC says it approved 31 trade cooperation agreements and 156 new routes during 2023

SANTO DOMINGO - During 2023, the plenary session of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) approved 31 Commercial Cooperation Agreements between airlines of different nationalities, promoting the arrival of passengers from less traditional destinations.

A press release from the institution indicates that to that amount should be added that, to date, the current administration headed by José Ernesto Marte Piantini has approved the operation of 156 new routes to different destinations around the world.

“This is historic; we are fulfilling the promise of the President of the Republic to increase air connectivity in the Dominican territory,” said Marte Piantini, president of the organization, while announcing the figures.

He detailed that since the beginning of the current administration, 42,275 air operations have been authorized under the modality of non-regular or charter flights, of which 22,831 correspond to operations exclusively for cargo and 19,444 correspond to cargo and passenger transport.

He also explained that, under the Special Permits modality, 14,567 flights have been approved.

Marte Piantini described the growth of the sector as "extraordinary," a result of the progress and development of air connectivity achieved.

This achievement, he emphasized, was thanks to the agency under his charge and the support of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader.

The official highlighted the stability that commercial aviation has experienced in the country since August 16, 2020.

“The Dominican Republic is more connected to the world; the air connectivity achieved in three years with the increase in frequencies and the establishment of new routes with Europe, South America, the Caribbean and Central America are proof of this,” he declared.

The official stated that since the beginning of this year, the sector has shown significant progress thanks to the actions taken by the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) to establish the Dominican Republic as a leading destination in the region. “Our country’s economic development rests on several pillars, and one of those pillars is civil aviation,” he explained.

In this context, the president of the organization cited the enactment of the tax incentive law for air operators, which is expected to bring new routes, provide Dominican travelers with new alternatives, and further boost the development of this sector. “The airline incentive law will create more opportunities for aviation in the country,” he pointed out.

US$41,363 million

“All these operations,” he emphasized, “have resulted in the movement of 44,926,132 passengers through 362,791 air operations, which translates into direct and indirect income estimated for the country at 41,363 million dollars.”.

The president of the JAC highlighted the importance of the agreements, amendment protocols, and memoranda of understanding for air services signed through the organization with the aim of providing airlines and air transport users with greater connectivity. “The agreements signed by the current administration allow airlines to create new routes, in addition to contributing to the establishment of more options for Dominican travelers.”.

Regarding the importance of the agreements, he cited those signed with the Kingdom of Spain, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Canada, Guatemala, the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, El Salvador, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Switzerland, Iceland, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Kenya, Suriname, Poland, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Rwanda, the State of Kuwait, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Cuba, Seychelles, the State of Qatar, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
