Investing in the Dominican Republic is a safe and guaranteed bet, says Luis Abinader

PUNTA CANA, LA ALTAGRACIA. – After calling on foreigners and local businesspeople to continue investing their capital in the country, President Luis Abinader said yesterday that the Dominican Republic is a safe and guaranteed bet for investments.

“Two and a half years ago, we said that the best bet was to invest in the Dominican Republic, and especially in the hotel sector. This very accurate statement can be confirmed by all the investors who have invested here; they have done well and will continue to do well. It is an investment guaranteed by a government that believes in local and foreign investment and that is pro-employment and pro-business,” the president declared while participating in the groundbreaking ceremony for the W Punta Cana in Uvero Alto.

Abinader invited them to continue "this investment in the Dominican Republic, a safe and guaranteed bet by a Government that has the Dominican people as its main asset and the creation of new jobs for Dominicans.".

With a projected investment of $130 million, the Puntacana Group, Mac Hotels, and Marriott International have begun construction of the W Punta Cana in Uvero Alto, the first all-inclusive luxury hotel in the Dominican Republic, which, according to its promoters, will contribute to the sustained economic and tourism growth of the area and the country.

In his remarks, the president added that thanks to the pro-business policies implemented by his government, the country currently has one of the lowest unemployment rates.

The president expressed his gratitude for the confidence shown by the Punta Cana Group, stating that this project brings the total number under construction 1,500 . The property is projected to open in the summer of 2024.

About the hotel

The new hotel, whose investment exceeds $130 million, will be an adults-only, all-inclusive luxury property, the first W Hotels in the Dominican market and one of the first W All-Inclusive resorts worldwide.

It will feature 349 rooms with balconies and plunge pools, as well as a dynamic adult program. The resort's design includes a spa with eleven treatment rooms, a shopping area, three pools with swim-up bars, and eleven restaurant and bar options.

“The signing of the W Punta Cana Uvero Alto demonstrates our strong commitment to tourism development in the Dominican Republic. With this, we are opening new markets, increasing our hotel offerings, and generating 600 new jobs, which represents a better quality of life for our people. We are committed to the tourism industry, we believe in it, and even more so, we believe in the country,” stated Frank Elías Rainieri, President and CEO of the Puntacana Group.

He emphasized that this is the first time the Punta Cana Group has expanded beyond its own land holdings to build hotels. "A modern and bold concept in the Dominican Republic, we are committed to building a better country by imagining more," the executive stated.

“The start of this adventure with Grupo Puntacana and Marriott International gives our company a much-desired international dimension, and we thank both for the trust they have placed in us. We are excited to offer an unparalleled experience to our guests,” said Begoña Amengual, Executive Vice President of Mac Hotels.

For MAC Hotels, the project's promoter since its inception, this investment represents its third foray into the country; with this latest hotel, it aims to change its hotel strategy, where the company has been the sole investor and manager of its projects to date.

“At Marriott International, we are very pleased to be working with these two great partners to bring the first W Hotels to the Dominican Republic, a brand that redefines the concept of luxury and now in Punta Cana will offer a unique and convenient all-inclusive format that we know visitors and our more than 179 million Marriott Bonvoy members who seek culturally immersive travel will greatly appreciate,” commented Alex Fiz, Vice President of the Caribbean and General Manager of All-Inclusive, Marriott International.

The property is expected to open in the summer of 2024.
