SANTO DOMINGO - The president of the National Association of Companies and Industries of Herrera (ANEIH), Euri Andújar, advocated for a greater commitment and social responsibility on the part of the competent authorities so that the social impact of the road infrastructure works that are in the planning stages is considered for the population and business city of the area of influence.
According to the business leader, it is undeniable that one of the important challenges to be faced urgently in order to increase productivity and the comparative advantages of economic agents lies in reducing congestion in land travel and improving the vehicular flow of people and goods.
However, he emphasized that, in the specific cases of the Plaza de la Bandera tunnel, and the interventions at Km. 9 of the Duarte highway, the one on República de Colombia avenue and the Avenida de Los Beisbolistas, the planning guidelines weigh the direct and indirect implications, so that the works provide comprehensive, equitable and inclusive benefits, a press release highlights.
"These are unprecedented efforts to improve connectivity between these key areas; however, in the case of the redesign of the intersections formed by Prolongación 27 de Febrero Avenue with Isabel Aguiar Avenue and Luperón Avenue with 27 de Febrero Avenue, two of the most critical points in terms of traffic flow in the National District, we must be careful with the redesign of the project, since the business and urban settlements will have to be relocated," Andújar stated.
The president of ANEIH presented his views during the opening of the Economic Cocktail The future of roads, improvements in the transit of Greater Santo Domingo, organized by the business entity, with the objective of identifying the social and economic impact of the interventions of the infrastructure works, mainly in Santo Domingo West, and the collateral reach of these in the adjacent commercial activities.
It featured the participation of guest speakers Roberto Herrera, Vice Minister of Supervision and Inspection of Public Works, and Onésimo González, Director of TRAE, and transportation specialist; it took place in the event hall of the union headquarters.
In his speech, the president of ANEIH considered that road development initiatives should be developed under a comprehensive vision, not perceived in isolation, and that they should consider the nature of the entities they impact.

He pointed out that the implementation of an efficient road infrastructure, consisting of a network of avenues, bridges, tunnels, highways, and other elements necessary for land mobility, will allow companies to transport their products more efficiently and at a lower cost, which translates into greater competitiveness in the market.
He cited as examples the Los Beisbolistas avenue in the municipality of Santo Domingo Oeste, whose neglect and poor condition pose a danger to pedestrians and drivers, as well as the high danger of the Duarte highway, which, he said, demands compliance with adequate service, comfort and design standards, with a special emphasis on preserving lives and the road of users.
"This expansion will allow for greater traffic flow, especially during peak hours, thus reducing travel time and the costs associated with congestion," he emphasized.
road infrastructure is essential for the economic and social development of a region, but it must be properly planned, built, and maintained to ensure its efficiency and sustainability, paying attention to road safety and the socio - economic impact on the areas of influence of the works, to guarantee the sustainability of road projects," the business leader concluded.
