The Minister of Public Administration, Sigmund Freund , presented the Cabo Rojo Tourism Development Project to Canadian investors and businessmen as one of the pillars of the new growth model promoted by the Dominican Government.
In his participation in the Breakfast “Foreign Investment and Logistics in the Americas”, the official pointed out that this project represents the vision of a sustainable, inclusive tourism that generates opportunities for the entire Southern region.
Freund presented the new destination in the South as an example of investment opportunities under public-private collaboration and offered an overview of the investment climate in the Dominican Republic, its competitive advantages and strategic projects.
He highlighted the unique characteristics of Cabo Rojo and the advantages it offers to investors interested in developing new hotels, theme parks, and other tourist attractions, as well as the potential for air connectivity with Canadian airlines and operators to explore charter flights and seasonal or direct routes to Cabo Rojo International Airport.
During his presentation, Freund emphasized that the Cabo Rojo project, and the Dominican Republic in general, is an exemplary case of progress and opportunity in Latin America and the Caribbean. He also noted that Cabo Rojo stems from the vision of the government, led by President Luis Abinader, to transform the country's most neglected region into a model of sustainable development, social inclusion, and opportunities for its people.
The official explained that the objective of this project is to transform the Dominican southwest into a sustainable tourist destination for the Caribbean and Central America, boost the economic and social growth of the southern region, and guarantee quality, safe tourism focused on the satisfaction of each visitor.
The minister was accompanied by the deputy executive director of the Pro-Pedernales Trust, Eliardo Cairo, with whom he completed a schedule of meetings with businessmen and investors interested in the project, reinforcing that Cabo Rojo is positioning itself as the most modern, orderly and environmentally responsible tourist destination in the Caribbean.
Advances in infrastructure and hotels
Minister Sigmund Freund indicated that the first Iberostar Hotel is scheduled to open with 588 rooms in the second half of next year ; the Secret Hyatt , with 507 rooms, will begin operations in the first half of 2027 , while the Dreams Hyatt, with another 504 rooms, will begin operating in the second half of 2027.
He added that the project already has access roads and power plants and wastewater treatment plants, while the Cabo Rojo International Airport will be operational from mid-2026.
