IKEA will distribute €110 million ($128 million) among its employees for their efforts during the coronavirus pandemic, the Ingka Group, owner of most of the Swedish furniture chain's stores, announced today.
The Ingka Group, which accounts for 90% of IKEA's sales and operates in 32 countries with more than 170,000 employees , will divide the sum among those who were working for the company on August 31 and will continue to be employed in January 2022.
The amount received by each employee will be proportional to their work schedule and the country in which they work.
"Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have strived to support our employees in a professional and caring manner, in line with our values and our humanistic approach. This is another step in that direction," the company said in a statement.
Ingka Group reported retail sales of €37.4 billion ($43.518 billion) for the last fiscal year (September 1-August 31), a 6.3% year-on-year increase.
The share of online sales rose from 18% to 30%, and the Swedish chain opened 26 new stores.
Ingka Group (Ingka Holding and its subsidiaries) is one of twelve groups that own and operate IKEA retail channels under franchise agreements with Inter IKEA Systems, which owns the IKEA concept .
