SANTO DOMINGO. – The General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) announced this Thursday, January 22, that there will be no extension for the renewal without surcharge of the Vehicle Circulation Tax, better known as sticker , whose validity ends this January 31 .
As of 2:30 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, January 22, 2026, 1,377,079 vehicle registration stickers , generating RD$ 2,323,039,500 , out of a total of 2,086,756 eligible vehicles and an estimated revenue of RD$3,433,806,000.00. 709,677 remain pending renewal , representing 34%.
In that regard, the DGII urged motor vehicle owners to complete the renewal process within the established timeframe, in order to avoid surcharges, fines and other penalties contemplated in current regulations.
the online renewal period ended on , so currently the process can only be done in person at the 47 financial institutions , with 856 branches distributed throughout the country, as well as at the DGII collection offices in Villa Vásquez , Montecristi province, and Sánchez , Samaná province.
Sanctions:
penalties for non-renewal remain in effect for the established period:
RD 2,000.00 (surcharge) for vehicles that do not renew before January 31, 2026.
RD 2,100.00 to vehicles that did not renew the 2024-2025 sticker (RD 2,000.00 for penalty for non-renewal + RD 100.00 for administrative cessation).
RD 3,100.00 to vehicles that did not renew their registration sticker in the 2023-2024 and previous years (RD 3,000.00 as a penalty for non-renewal + RD 100.00 for administrative cessation).
The institution also urged taxpayers not to wait until the last minute to comply with this tax obligation.
