The price per square meter is RD$28,671 more expensive than in Santo Domingo East

SANTO DOMINGO. – Buying a home in the National District can cost RD$28,671 more per square meter than the same unit marketed in the municipality of Santo Domingo East, even though the former is smaller than the latter.
The price per square meter of a house in the country's main district is RD$79,051, an amount higher than the RD$50,380 it costs in the eastern zone, according to the Building Supply Registry (ROE) report, prepared by the National Statistics Office (ONE).
The document, presented yesterday by the ONE, specifies that, on average, the individual area of a house being built in the National District consists of 160.1 square meters, while in Santo Domingo East it is 178 square meters.

“The National District is concentrating smaller projects, but at the same time with much higher prices,” explained Augusto de los Santos, director of Economic Statistics at the ONE, during the presentation.
In Santo Domingo Oeste the price per square meter of a home is RD$39,840.8, in Santo Domingo Norte RD$30,313.5 and in Los Alcarrizos RD$29,026.3, according to data collected in the report.
On average, the cost per square meter of a house in the four municipalities of the Santo Domingo province is RD$37,390.1, the research says.
Most of it is housing
Currently, residential construction accounts for the majority of projects underway in the metropolitan region (National District and Santo Domingo). The total saleable construction area reached 4,181,955.1 square meters, of which residential construction represented 82.2% (3.4 million square meters), followed by commercial construction at 246,211.7 square meters.
