The Bahia Principe Grand El Portillo hotel was awarded the "Samaná Business Tourism Sustainability Award", a recognition that highlights the commitment of the hotel sector to the preservation of the environment and the promotion of more responsible tourism.
The award was presented during the 10th Samaná Tourism Development Meeting. It was granted by the Samaná Tourism Cluster and highlights the sustainability initiatives implemented by the hotel in various areas, such as the efficient management of natural resources, the reduction of environmental impact, and the strengthening of the local economy.
“Receiving this award is a source of pride and a motivation to continue our work in support of responsible tourism. Our goal is to continue developing initiatives that reduce our environmental impact and contribute to the well-being of local communities,” said Matías Colombo, Director of Institutional Development RD at Grupo Piñero.
Bahia Principe Grand El Portillo has developed a comprehensive approach to sustainability based on reducing carbon emissions, conserving biodiversity and promoting responsible consumption, according to a press release.
“Among our main initiatives, we highlight the efficient management of water, implementing advanced technologies to optimize its use and reduce waste. In addition, we have focused our efforts on recycling and waste reduction strategies, promoting the reuse of materials and encouraging recycling in our operations. We are also committed to protecting biodiversity, developing mangrove restoration projects and conserving native species in the region,” Colombo added.

This award marks the second time the Piñero Group has received the Samaná Business Tourism Sustainability Award. In its inaugural year, Cayo Levantado Resort, the group's first luxury hotel, was recognized for its contribution to the region's sustainable development.
In a context where travelers are increasingly aware of the environmental impact of their decisions, hotels and destinations that prioritize responsible practices have a competitive advantage and contribute to positioning the Dominican Republic as a tourist destination committed to sustainable development.
