SANTO DOMINGO- In 2022, Habitat Dominicana supported more than 12,820 people with the construction of decent housing, providing them with housing solutions under a program that facilitates access to microfinance for the improvement and repair of homes for low-income families.
To these contributions, the organization adds the support of local and international donors and volunteers, companies and financial partners who contributed so that more homes could be built and rebuilt, as well as the volunteer hands that donated a total of 1,337 hours in favor of this worthy cause, the institution says in a press release.
Another area of work highlighted by the organization is the training of vulnerable communities on financial matters, health, family emergency plans, technical construction assistance, and workshops for master builders, training more than 2,658 people during these 36 years and leaving 19 communities with work plans ready to be implemented in favor of their development.
“Each year, more families become part of our impact on progress and advancement by giving them the opportunity to own a decent home through their effort, work, and sacrifice. We have effectively increased access to decent housing and closed 2022 with great achievements. We will continue and will not rest until every Dominican has a decent place to call home. We count on the donors, volunteers, and financial institutions that always show solidarity, and on a team of excellent, responsible, and humanitarian professionals,” explains Cesarina Fabián, National Director of Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic.
The organization emphasizes that it is aware of the economic needs of the Dominican population and for this reason has created financial products suitable for microfinance institutions to give less fortunate people the opportunity to obtain their own housing, resulting in more than 2,271 families receiving assistance through financial partners.
The organization explains that it has been developing studies to incorporate new construction methods for the target population and in favor of the environment with the construction of 37 eco-friendly and comfortable homes, adding elements such as recycled plastic and polyaluminum in pilot projects in alliance with the company Tetrapak; as well as in alliance with Nature Power Foundation with the Nature Village project, which "together we built the first sustainable rural community in the Dominican Republic.".
For the year that has just begun, Habitat Dominicana intends to continue with the initiative to replace dirt floors with concrete ones, so that more families can improve their health and have better living conditions. With this project, the NGO seeks to help 10,000 Dominicans, with the support of the Government, businesses, donors, volunteers and partners, to transform their habitat.
In 2022, the organization thanks the communities that, through their leaders and associations, actively participated in their own development.
