SANTO DOMINGO. – After being recognized with an honorable mention in the Digital Journalism category at the twenty-first edition of the Epifanio Lantigua National Tourism Journalism Award (PEL 2025), journalist Solangel Valdez received official congratulations from the executive president of Grupo Cap Cana, Jorge Subero Medina.
In a letter sent to Valdez, Subero Medina emphasized that Valdez's work contributes not only to journalistic excellence but also to strengthening Dominican identity and positioning the country as a leading cultural destination. "With your work, you inspire other journalism professionals, and those of us who work in the industry, to maintain a high standard of ethics, rigor, and commitment," he stated.
He also expressed his admiration for the articles published in El Inmobiliario about the remodeling work in the Colonial City. “Their articles not only provide a historical overview, but also highlight their narrative depth, social relevance, and contribution to the development of a more humane and inclusive tourism, qualities that we fully share in Cap Cana,” the letter states.
Subero Medina also reaffirmed his company's commitment to initiatives that promote responsible and well-told tourism. "We firmly believe that well-told tourism is better tourism: tourism that respects people, culture, and the environment, and generates sustainable value," he stated.
The special mention awarded to Valdez in the PEL 2025 recognized two reports published in June of this year: “Colonial City: 7 years of construction, only 3 streets completed and much discontent” and “Experts warned about Gentrification in the Colonial City,” both focused on the urban and heritage transformation processes of the historic area of Santo Domingo.
Valdez, a journalist and photographer with extensive experience in media outlets such as the newspaper Hoy and the now-defunct El Siglo, and Listín Diario, is part of the El InmobiliarioMedia Group, which specializes in the construction, real estate, and tourism sectors.
The awards ceremony, organized by the Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur) under the motto "We are culture", brought together representatives of the tourism sector and recognized other journalism professionals, including Karina Jiménez (Listín Diario), Sudelka García (El Nacional) and Katheryn Luna (Acento), who received the Grand Prize for her focus on inclusive tourism.
