Government inaugurates renovated Gri-Gri lagoon

It is one of the natural treasures of the Dominican Republic, located in Río San Juan.

In the province of María Trinidad Sánchez, President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, led this weekend the inauguration of several works with an estimated investment of RD$77 million to boost fishing and ecological tourism in the Gri-Gri Lagoon and its surroundings.

These projects are in addition to others delivered in this province since 2021, aimed at strengthening tourism development, attracting investment and boosting local commerce.

The president highlighted the relaunch of tourism in this municipality, especially nautical and real estate tourism.

He highlighted that among the works delivered in Río San Juan is a fishing pier, to boost fishing and also serve tourism.

New investments

Abinader announced that they will make new investments to impact more beaches and other docks.

For his part, Collado highlighted that several beaches in Cabrera will be renovated and improved at a cost of RD$30 million and said that they are already in the bidding process.

He explained that the renovation of the Gri-Gri lagoon, in the municipality of Río San Juan, will directly impact more than 70 families who work as tour guides on boats, food vendors and restaurants in the surrounding area.

Other completed works in Cabrera are the boardwalk and the pedestrian path from Lorenzo Álvarez Street to Duarte Street, with an investment of RD$63,439,769.36 and RD$10,394,493.72, respectively.

Also, the supply and installation of poles and lights on the Cabrera boardwalk is underway for RD$11,996,977.40.

Gri-Gri Lagoon Refurbishment

The works of the Gri-Gri lagoon were carried out by the executive committee of infrastructure in Tourist Zones, (Ceiztur), for a cost of RD$ 76,868,930.64.

In an area of ​​3,500 square meters, this intervention included the paving of 2,630 square meters of the road that gives access to the main square of the lagoon.

It connects, via three access points, to the other plazas surrounding the spring.
The connections are made using stairs and ramps for universal access.
It also includes access to the nature trail leading to Los Guardia and Mino beaches.

It also includes new bathroom facilities, ticket office, interior and exterior lighting, concrete benches, trash cans, signage, a photo stop, a small amphitheater for typical community celebrations, among other amenities.
