SANTO DOMINGO– Vice President Raquel Peña, along with the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Deligne Ascención, led the inauguration ceremony yesterday, Friday, of the Villa Güera bridge in the municipality of Baní, which included the paving of streets and the construction of sidewalks and curbs; on the 6 de Noviembre highway, the pedestrian and vehicular overpass was delivered, and in the industrial zone of Haina, the paving of streets.
The works have an investment that exceeds 464 million pesos.
The vice president assured that the coming and going of vehicles that will pass through this bridge will strengthen the development of Villa Güera, La Montería, El Manaclar and many other communities that will serve as a means of land communication.
“There have been many years of worry, for example, during rainy times, but here you finally have it and in conditions that you all deserve.”.
He said that children and young people will be able to go to their schools safely, adults will be able to arrive on time to their jobs, and farmers will be able to take their produce everywhere, without fear of river flooding.
Meanwhile, Minister Ascención emphasized that the construction of the bridge has been a comprehensive solution that facilitates road communication.
“This extraordinary modern engineering solution guarantees the durability of the work and definitively protects it against the eventualities of floods, high water levels and atmospheric events resulting from climate change.”.
The bridge is 65 meters long and 10.5 meters wide, designed to carry traffic in two 3.5-meter lanes. It is equipped with sidewalks, protective walls, railings, and safety and guidance signage for drivers.
He said that in addition to the bridge, investments have been made in related construction work, with an investment in the province amounting to 270 million pesos, “these consist of the construction of sidewalks and curbs, the paving of about four kilometers of streets, including a resurfacing or restoration of the pavement on the main road leading to the bridge.
The streets in the Villa Boston 1, Villa Boston 2, Nueva Esperanza, Los Guayacanes, Belén and del Padre sectors were paved.
“The MOPC delivers the 315th project, covering every point of the national geography where we have carried out large, medium and small projects, all of them full of the spirit and desire to dignify the life of Dominicans, who no matter where they reside are deserving of the government coming to their aid and contributing to their well-being and progress,” he stated.
Pedestrian and motorized crossing
Vice President Raquel Peña, presiding over the inauguration of the pedestrian and vehicular overpass in the El Cruce de la Semilla sector of the 6 de Noviembre highway, stated that it was built to expedite movement across the highway and prevent the dangers people faced when crossing it.
Ascención said that the communities adjacent to this road have a project that not only consists of an investment in road infrastructure and improved access for the inhabitants of this area.
"Above all, it has a strong human character, because it guarantees the safety of thousands of people, especially hundreds of children and elderly people, who must cross a highway with a high level of danger in a densely populated area every day.".
He stated that the investment in the project, whose construction was carried out by the Las Américas Consortium, amounted to 60 million pesos.
The overpass or motorized crossing is 66 meters long and has two ramps, each 50 meters long. It includes sidewalks and curbs, access steps, a dividing and safety wall between the motorway and the pedestrian walkway, guardrails, signage, lighting, and landscaping of the surrounding area.
“This project aims to resolve a long-standing traffic problem at this location. This area had the highest percentage of fatal accidents on the 6 de Noviembre highway. Studies conducted by Intrant indicate that 24% of accidents in the last five years occurred at this spot,” he explained.
Paved streets
Raquel Peña, together with Ascención, handed over the streets of the Haina Industrial Zone, as well as those of the center of the municipality and the sectors of Barsequillo and Cabón.
Today we delivered the reconstruction of virtually all the streets in the Haina Industrial Zone. We've paved from Street A to Street N. And we haven't completed the entire alphabet up to Z because that's where the streets in the Industrial Zone end: at the letter N.
We are also delivering the fully rehabilitated streets of downtown Haina.
These are the Sánchez Vieja road and the streets Libertad, Máximo Gómez, Juan Antonio Alix, José García, Respaldo 17, María Trinidad Sánchez, and Leonor de Ovando.
He also mentioned the resurfacing and reconstruction of the Cabón neighborhood and the rehabilitation and signage of the Main Street and alleys 1, 2 and 3 of the Los Cangrejos sector.
“All these projects have involved a budget exceeding 134 million pesos and the work has been carried out by the company Asfatur in a period of three months, since the beginning in November of last year,” he highlighted.
