The phrase "there is strength in unity" might seem overused, but I've always believed, as my admired Pepe Mujica says, that even the poorest person has something to give and contribute. This weekend, the Dominican Republic added another page to its cultural history by entering the Guinness World Records on Saturday, December 11, 2021, with the world's largest bachata dance, where 489 couples synchronized the catchy rhythm, dethroning Poland, which had held the title since 2019.
Besides being happy to reaffirm the capacity of human beings, in this case Dominicans, when they align themselves with a goal, I highlight two facts that filled me with satisfaction, while witnessing the event, through the television broadcast.
The first time was seeing the bachata legend Don Luis Segura, with several decades under his belt, in the prime of his abilities, receiving the recognition of having his song "Pena por ti" played at the top of the Malecón as the official theme song of the event. (With the permission and apologies of the readers, as this is not an entertainment publication).
And the second one does correspond, because it has to do with four real estate couples, whom we highlight in this edition, who were part of the event, giving their all to contribute to raising the image and positioning of our country brand.
Three months of arduous training, with rehearsals for long hours, including weekends and without receiving remuneration, deserve the applause of the entire sector, because as they stated in one of the interviews granted to this media, their main motivation to join the contest was to contribute a grain of sand to their nation, from the corresponding stage, in this case the stage of “Un record pa` la bachata”.
Maika, Violeta, Magia, and Wanda are leading women from Premium Real Estate, Keller Williams Realty, and Time Homes, respectively, who had to sacrifice time, adjust their schedules, work extra, postpone activities, overcome obstacles, fight exhaustion, among many other things, to dedicate time to preparing for the event's final.
It was much more comfortable to stay in their comfort zone and not get involved in bachata crowds, but the four warriors, now happy winners of a Guinness World Record, leave us with the message that from wherever we are we will always have the opportunity to contribute, from the possibilities that each one has, with a positive attitude and a little bit of nationalism.
It's good to hear from the participants about the alliance they forged, without looking at the brand they belonged to, uniting talent and skill in order to ensure that the country emerged victorious from the challenge and today celebrate as Dominicans the coveted title.
Having a Guinness World Record on your resume is a source of pride for anyone who holds it; but remember, it's the result of a path of sacrifice, discipline, patience, and determination—just listen to the song "Vuela Alto" by Julio Iglesias. Congratulations, brave warriors! YES, YOU CAN!.
