SANTO DOMINGO.- With an average of 80.4%, February was crowned during the year 2023, as the month with the highest hotel occupancy in the country, according to statistics recorded by the Tourism Intelligence System (SITUR), of the Dominican Ministry of Tourism.
This is a platform that offers information on the trends, structure and prospects of the tourism sector and its value chain in the Dominican Republic.
March, according to the publication of the body that oversees national tourism policies, follows as the second month in which Dominican hotels received the majority of visitors, with 76.7%; in January of last year the arrival of guests reached 76.6%, December 76.3%, while in April an occupancy of 76.1% was achieved.
SITUR, a tool of MITUR, reports that September was the month in which visitors to hotel establishments registered the lowest occupancy with 57% of visitors, May 68.4%; August 69.8%, in June the average was around 71.3%, November 73.5%, July experienced 75.5% of guest accommodation, while October reached 60.8% occupancy.
Last month of the year
According to statistics from Situr, 90.1% of visitors staying in local hotels in December were foreigners, and only 9.9% were from within the country.
The tourist destinations in the East of the country, Bávaro-Punta Cana and Romana-Bayahibe, recorded the highest hotel occupancy rates during the last month of the year with 83% and 83.5%, respectively.
Puerto Plata, the city with the highest cruise passenger traffic during 2023, received a 62.2% occupancy rate in its hotel facilities in the 12th month, Samaná 61.2%, Santiago 58.8%, Sosua-Cabarete 57.8%, Boca Chica-Juan Dolio 55.8% and Greater Santo Domingo 54.5%.
