SANTO DOMINGO.- The Minister of Public Works , Eduardo Estrella, yesterday extended a message of solidarity to all the families who, like his own, are facing the consequences of the heartbreaking tragedy that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 8, at the Jet Set nightclub, which has claimed 226 lives so far.
Estrella expressed, on behalf of the Estrella Cruz family , her deepest and most sincere gratitude "for the countless expressions of affection, support and solidarity that we have received after the tragic passing of our beloved children, Eduardo Guarionex and Alexandra Grullón."
"We extend a and sorrowful embrace devastating tragedy . We pray to God that He grants us all the strength to overcome this immense pain and find solace amidst so much sadness," the official posted on his account.
"Guario and Ale were, are, and always will be exceptional children. They will live eternally in our memories and in our hearts. We love them deeply!" the statement reads.
He also thanked the relief organizations and authorities for their tireless work, their heroic dedication, their professionalism, and for never giving up. "Their commitment and humanity will forever be etched in our hearts," he said.
226 victims
A Costa Rican citizen became the 226th victim on Saturday as a result of the roof collapse at the Jet Set nightclub in the Dominican capital.
The National Health Service (SNS) stated that the woman was receiving medical attention at the Marcelino Vélez Santana Hospital in Santo Domingo Oeste, after being seriously injured in the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 8.
The patient is a 41-year-old woman who underwent surgery on Friday and was in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU), the agency said in a brief statement.
