Dominican Week in the USA opens tomorrow to attract investment

SANTO DOMINGO. - From tomorrow, September 26th, until the 30th, Dominican Week will be celebrated in the United States, which seeks especially to attract new investments to the Dominican Republic and reunite the diaspora in North American territory.

Representatives from the American Chamber of Commerce (AmchamDR) revealed the details of the event during a meeting with the media, where they explained the areas of focus of the activity: tourism, health, regional logistics hub, digital transformation and renewable energies.

The event, which takes place every year, has a wide-ranging program this year, beginning with the raising of the Dominican flag at the Dominican embassy in Washington, where there will be a conference with Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and meetings are planned at the State Department, the Department of Labor and the Department of Commerce, as well as recognitions for Dominicans who have excelled abroad.

Roberto Herrera, president of the American Chamber; William Malamud, vice president of the entity; and Steven Puig, president of the External Relations Committee of AmchamDR, were present at the event with the media, offering explanations of the 2022 version.

Dominican Week has been held for 30 years with the aim of further promoting the country's brand, boosting trade, and increasing connections to attract investment. It also seeks to broaden the range of options available to Dominicans, Herrera explained.

AmchamDR manages trade missions, and therefore the activity will help attract greater investment, Puig stated. Malamud emphasized the importance of the agenda for strengthening business.

As part of the agenda, activities will take place in Washington and New York. The Washington event includes a discussion on trade, with the Minister of Industry, Commerce, and SMEs, Víctor "Ito" Bisonó, participating as a panelist on business alliances and relations between the two countries.

In addition, there will be a conference at Georgetown University on the Alliance for Democracy and Development, led by Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, an event with representatives of the World Bank, and a jazz concert with Michael Camilo, among other activities that include recognitions of the diaspora and a Gallup event.

In New York, activities will be held on technology and cybersecurity with CITI, a cocktail reception with the National Association of Hotels and Tourism (Asonahores); with an association of lawyers of Hispanic origin, a visit will also be made to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), among other meetings.
