SANTO DOMINGO. - As part of its commitment to the protection, management and responsible use of natural resources, as well as the sustainable development of the country, the cement company Domicem carried out a reforestation day of endemic plants in the community of Los Roches, Pizarrete, Peravia province.
During this event, 350 trees of the Guatapaná, Abey, Olive, and Cucuyo species were planted. The activity was carried out in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the National Botanical Garden, and Ecored, as part of the Red List Rescue program for the conservation of national flora and the rescue of endangered species. Company employees, local community members, and students participated.
This initiative is carried out periodically in various communities as part of Domicem's commitment and social and environmental responsibility, in order to contribute to maintaining the diversity of flora and fauna species in the area.
Juan José Peña, manager of the Integrated Quality, Safety and Environment Management System at Domicem, stated: “Our mission is to create economic and social value by producing cement sustainably. Since our inception, we have remained true to this principle. One of the fundamental pillars is the proper and responsible management of the extraction areas.”.
Peña explained that in the area of the mine, from which they extract the main raw material for the production of clinker and cement, the company has reforested more than 120,000 square meters, planting endemic plants of the region.
For her part, Arlette Fernández, Communications Manager, stated that as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility policy, Domicem also carries out a large number of projects in the areas of health, education, sports and culture to contribute to the development of the communities where it operates.
Among those projects, he cited an agreement with Ecored for the Red List Rescue program for the conservation of national flora and the rescue of endangered species.
In addition, a financial contribution will be made for each bag of cement sold to the Don Bosco Boys and Girls Network, and a scholarship program will be established for meritorious students from high schools near Sabana Grande de Palenque, so that young people with high grades can pursue their studies at the Loyola Polytechnic Institute.

Fernández also highlighted that Domicem contributed to the equipping of the Juan Barón municipal library, the only institution that offers library services to the entire community in the area.
He explained that the company has made donations of school supplies, improvements to sports facilities in the area; construction and improvement of public parks; multiple improvements to the Sabana Grande de Palenque hospital, donation of equipment for community services and the construction and equipping of the Sabana Grande de Palenque police station.
He reported that one of the most emblematic works with which Domicem has contributed to the community is the construction and equipping of the Atilano Aquino Pereyra Fire Station in Sabana Grande de Palenque.
“Our company has always supported and will continue to support the community of Sabana Grande de Palenque, through these and other actions,” he concluded.
