SANTO DOMINGO. – The Direct Housing Construction Cost Index (ICDV) increased by 2.79 points in October of this year, compared to the previous month, going from 196.82 to 199.62 points, according to a report from the National Statistics Office (ONE).
The director of Economic Statistics at the ONE, Augusto de los Santos, indicated that the main increases occurred in the materials group, with 2.09%, as well as in the wood subgroup with 8.20%.
“The ICDV registered a monthly variation of 1.42%. This result is higher compared to that presented in the same period of the previous year, which was 1.10%,” de los Santos explained.
The data is contained in the Housing Construction Cost Variation Measurement Report, which the National Statistics Office (ONE) conducts monthly in the National District and Santo Domingo province. According to the specialist, the Housing Construction Cost Variation Index (ICDV) is a tool that collects data on four types of housing: single-family homes with one or two stories; and multi-family homes with four to eight stories or more.
“By type of housing, the ICDV was 202.01 for single-family housing on one level; 199.03 for single-family housing on two levels; 197.21 for multi-family housing on four levels; and 200.22 for multi-family housing on eight levels or more,” explained the director of Economic Statistics at ONE.
Cost Groups
The main decreases, according to the cost group, occurred in tools (-2.72%) and subcontracts (-0.28%), while the main increase was in materials (2.09%).
Cost Subgroups:
The main decreases occurred in the cost subgroups of tools (-2.72%), carpentry subcontracting (-2.30%), and the elevator (-1.05%). Meanwhile, the main increases were in lumber (8.20%), followed by PVC pipes and fittings (6.72%) and paint (6.21%).
