Deligne Ascención assures Navarrete-Montecristi highway will be finished in January 2024

MONTECRISTI - The Minister of Public Works, Deligne Ascención, highlighted here that the reconstruction work on the Duarte highway, in the section between Navarrete and Montecristi, is well advanced and will be delivered at the beginning of next year.

“Montecristi has been a province highly impacted by government actions, due to the potential development of the port that is under construction. We have had a wide range of interventions in this province and will continue to impact the different municipalities,” he said.

During a supervisory visit to the works being carried out, Ascención said that these are part of the set of works being carried out through the loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for the operation of the port of Manzanillo.

Asphalt work is also being carried out at the entrance to Montecristi and other sectors of the municipality. "This seeks to facilitate the movement of cargo transport, especially from Santiago and surrounding areas to the port," highlights a press release signed by the Directorate of Communications and Press of Public Works.

The investment plan will transform this project into one of the most important national ports, due to its geographical location, its draft, and the resources available that enhance it as a model for global logistics development.

“This road was in deplorable condition and the works on the port of Manzanillo would have been incomplete (when it is operational), hundreds of thousands of tons of cargo will be brought through here and moved throughout the country,” he assured.

He mentioned that the government has been developing intercommunication with the region, starting with Montecristi – Dajabón, then with Santiago Rodríguez – Montecristi, through the connection between Sabaneta and Guayubín, and that the work to improve the connection with Puerto Plata, through Villa Elisa – La Ensenada, is quite advanced.

Also, in reference to the speed bumps that were arbitrarily placed at the Navarrete intersection, he said that “this project has taken the situation into account and the correct signage of the road will be carried out, and the placement of these speed bumps as indicated by the traffic engineering specifications, to provide safety to the citizens and agility in traffic.”.

“Our cities grew and developed around highways; we must coordinate the safety of the people who live there with the necessary efficiency in traffic, especially on a road that has the characteristics of a primary highway,” he said.

Nelsy Cruz, the provincial governor, acknowledged the impact that the Ministry of Public Works has had in this province, “It has been a widespread impact, including the port of Manzanillo, which goes hand in hand with the development works that the Inter-American Development Bank has, as well as the paving of the streets, which has improved the lives of everyone.”.

During the tour, the minister was also accompanied by Cristian Borrero Rodríguez, director of the Executive Unit for Projects Financed with External Resources; Roedix Rodríguez, in charge of the MOPC Assistantship in Montecristi; the contractor Pedro Juan Reyes, among others.
