Although the world is beginning to experience an economic recovery after the shutdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the situation regarding container delays persists because international export and import conditions still remain unchanged.
When consulted by Listín Diario, the president of the Herrera Industrial Association (ANEIH), Noel Ureña, said that there is still a shortage of raw materials, including in the industrial, food, construction, energy, and other sectors.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the cosmetics sector is also being affected because there is less and less raw material available at higher prices.
He attributed this problem to the fact that factories are working half time, so other countries more "powerful" than the Dominican Republic are hoarding raw materials.
Meanwhile, the president of the Dominican Confederation of Small and Medium Construction Companies (Copymecon), Eliseo Cristopher, reported that affiliated builders are paying tariffs at the same price as before, but what they pay for containers has doubled.
