SANTO DOMINGO.- Tourism Minister David Collado yesterday demanded that the construction companies responsible for the renovation of the Samaná boardwalk meet the established deadline for the completion of the project.
The official placed a clock where the work is being carried out, giving a period of 28 days for the completion of the renovation, lighting and repair of the storm drain, aspects included in the renovation of the place.
Last November, the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) imposed a fine of 4 million pesos on the contractor in charge of the reconstruction of the San Pedro de Macorís boardwalk, due to non-compliance with the established deadlines for the completion of the work.
"Our commitment is to tourist destinations and to our people," David Collado commented through his social media, yesterday Tuesday, April 22.
"Therefore, today we have given a deadline of 28 days to all the builders responsible for the renovation, lighting and repair of the storm drainage on the Samaná boardwalk, so that they deliver this emblematic work within the agreed time, ensuring its enjoyment for the entire community," he explained.
He said that transparency is a fundamental and non-negotiable pillar of his administration and that he has the support of the Observatory of Good Practices, made up of the Network of Universities headed by INTEC, as well as representatives of the churches, the tourism cluster and the Samaná Hotel Association.
He emphasized that this structure gives him the freedom and legitimacy to demand concrete and timely results.
It started in 2022
The construction, which began in August 2022, was projected to require an investment of over RD$400 million and includes the intervention of 1.3 kilometers, stormwater drainage, comprehensive restoration of urban space, leisure areas, and other works.
The improvement of the stormwater drainage and other complementary works of the Samaná seawall consists of a set of hydraulic solutions with the purpose of mitigating the flooding that currently occurs in this area during times of heavy rain.
The works are divided into four lots: the first includes the improvement of the rainwater drainage of the Samaná boardwalk, while the second is the western section of the Santa Bárbara boardwalk.
