SANTO DOMINGO. - Tourism Minister David Collado inaugurated 11 reconstructed streets in the Colonial City this Friday, with an investment exceeding 103 million pesos.
The reconstruction and conditioning work on sidewalks, curbs and streets in the Colonial City is being carried out by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure of Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR) of the Ministry of Tourism.
The overall project consists of the reconstruction of sidewalks, curbs, and paving of 17 streets in the Colonial City, as well as in nearby areas such as San Lázaro and San Miguel.
The works include resurfacing and paving of the road over a length of 5,200 linear meters, in addition to the reconstruction of 9,300 linear meters of sidewalks in concrete and tiles and another 9,300 linear meters of curbs.
In addition to all this intervention, the adaptation of the rainwater drainage system and the vertical and horizontal signage and universal access ramps are also included.
Minister Collado stated that these interventions are part of the effort to ensure that the Colonial Zone continues to regain its splendor and guarantee the greatest number of visits from nationals and foreigners.
He stated that the interventions in the areas surrounding the Colonial City are part of the vision of inclusive and sustainable tourism.
“Today, with the handover of these streets, we are taking another step forward in a joint effort to ensure that our Colonial City continues to be the biggest attraction for national and international tourists,” said Collado.
The official guaranteed that there will be no street closures in the Colonial City in December, after stating that 8 percent of tourists arriving in the country visit the area.
The streets that have been handed over are:
- Isabel La Católica: Vicente Celestino Duarte – Juan Parra Alba section
- Archbishop Meriño: Mella-Restoration section.
- Restoration: José Reyes – ArzobispoMeriño section.
- Duarte: Mella – Juan Isidro Pérez section.
- Juan Isidro Pérez: Palo Hincado - Hostos section.
- La Noria: March 19th – Duarte section.
- La Noria: Restoration-Mella section.
- José Reyes: Mella – Juan Isidro Pérez section
- March 19th Street, Mella – Juan Isidro Pérez
- María la O alley.
- Polvorín Street: Mercedes-Juan Isidro Pérez section
With 2,356 linear meters of road resurfacing and asphalting, with a length of 4,087 linear meters of concrete and tile sidewalks, also, 4,087 linear meters of curbs.
