David Collado calls for more incentives for entrepreneurs

In the real estate industry there are various experiences born from entrepreneurship

National Entrepreneur Day , celebrated today, motivates the promoter of this initiative, David Collado, to ask President Abinader and the Congress of the Republic to modify Law 688-16, on entrepreneurship , so that a tax incentive is created for large companies that support young entrepreneurs in realizing their dreams.

Today is National Entrepreneur Day. Eight years ago, the country passed Law 88-13, which declares November 12th as the official date for this celebration. The initiative came from then-Congressman David Collado, currently the Minister of Tourism.

In 2013, Law 88-13, the Dominican Entrepreneur Law, was enacted, and in 2016, Collado also submitted another bill, Law 688-16, but although it was approved, it did not reach a consensus, so the official called for the addition of tax incentives to help young entrepreneurs to that piece of legislation.

Their proposal is to give large companies tax incentives to invest in small businesses.

"And that the return on those incentives for large companies is tailored to and in the same amount that the small company begins to pay taxes, meaning that the State loses nothing," he explained.

Contribution
has been working for over 18 years on entrepreneurship in the Dominican Republic, with the aim of fostering an entrepreneurial spirit in young people and adults. Nearly 20 years ago, in 2002, together with the Young Entrepreneurs Association, Mr. Pepín Corripio received an award, an honor that will be repeated today with another recognition for Mr. Corripio, as well as for entrepreneurs José Miguel González Cuesta and Mr. Frank Rainieri.

As part of the celebration, the current Minister of Tourism called for fairs and activities that motivate the country's entrepreneurs.

Don Pepín will be recognized.
The entrepreneurs' fair has been held for eight years and in this meeting the businessman Corripio has been part of it with the Pepín Corripio award for Dominican Entrepreneur.

During the fair's celebrations, three young people have been awarded prizes each year , and each one receives advice in the economic and legal areas, "and Don Pepín gives RD$500,000 to the one who comes in first place, RD$300,000 to the second and RD$250,000 to the third place ," Collado explained.

These motivations prove that with advice and a minimum amount of working capital, one can start a new business, he argues.

During these eight years, Don Pepín traditionally meets with young entrepreneurs for more than two hours with each one, and in these meetings they receive advice on how to solve the problems that arise, he said.

“That is why the Entrepreneurs Fair has decided to recognize Mr. Pepín for his support of the fair . He has not missed a single fair in these eight years and has given more than four free talks,” Collado stated.

One of those talks took place at Agora Mall, in four movie theaters simultaneously, and all of them were full, Collado recalled about these conferences, to emphasize as one of the reasons to recognize the businessman again.

José Miguel González Cuesta, president of the CCN Group, which owns the El Nacional and Jumbo supermarket chains, and Fran Rainieri, president of the Punta Cana Group, will be recognized, as will two young entrepreneurs from low-income backgrounds who have two projects underway. The five awards—three for the careers of established businesspeople and two for young entrepreneurs—will be presented at a ceremony attended by President Luis Abinader.

Collado said that the difficulty of obtaining financing means that many dreams are left stranded , that many dreams remain just projects.

Collado states that these recognitions are also a sign of the need to preserve legacies, in order to leave models of aspirations and examples for young Dominicans, "to leave something for the youth to dream about.".
