SANTO DOMINGO. – Tourism Minister David Collado announced this Wednesday that in the coming months President Luis Abinader will break ground on a new boulevard that will transform the capital city, stretching from Winston Churchill Avenue to Abraham Lincoln Avenue.
He stated that the project will require an investment of 500 million pesos. He also announced that the president will break ground on Santo Domingo's first Convention Center, which will be located on the site of the former Hotel Hispaniola, a plot of land declared to be of public utility.
The minister highlighted the achievements in the tourism sector, particularly in terms of visitor numbers.
He reiterated that 677,475 tourists entered the country by air in May, in addition to 169,260 cruise ship passengers that month.
He stated that this brings the total number of tourists since January to 5,026,990, and reiterated that they expect to exceed 11 million visitors by the end of the year.
The official spoke at the inauguration ceremony of the new Latitud 18 project and the Santo Domingo Marriott Piantini & Aloft Santo Domingo Piantini hotels, renowned hotel chains with more than 30 extraordinary brands.
