SANTO DOMINGO.- The Director General of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, announced a 30% increase in the total value of items and gifts that Dominicans residing abroad can bring to the country for their relatives, exempt from the corresponding tariffs.
Sanz Lovatón indicated that the maximum value of the items to be exempted will be USD$5,000.00 and the benefit will extend until January 15, 2025, becoming the largest and longest-lasting grace in history.
“We want to tell all of you that we love you very much and value you, thank you very much for all your sacrifices,” said the Director of Customs in a message addressed to the Dominican diaspora.
The Christmas grace applies to Dominicans entering the country by air as well as by sea, provided that the FOB value of the goods transported does not exceed the established amount and is not in commercial quantities, allowing only one unit of each type of merchandise, especially in the case of household appliances.
This exemption will be applied per family, and for those who have not been to the country for at least six months.
