SANTO DOMINGO.- The Ministry of Culture (MINC) announced that from Wednesday, March 13th to Monday, March 18th, vehicular traffic will be restricted on George Washington Avenue, in different sections of it, due to the celebration of the 2024 National Carnival Parade next Sunday, March 17th.
The road closures, which will be carried out in stages, will take place from this Wednesday the 13th at 8:00 pm until Monday, March 18th at 6:00 am.
Starting today, vehicular traffic will be partially obstructed on George Washington Avenue, in the section between Estrelleta Street and Máximo Gómez Avenue, from 8:00 pm until 12:00 am on Friday the 15th, at which time this same section will be completely closed until Monday the 18th at 6:00 am.
Additionally, from Saturday the 16th at 8:00 pm there will be a total closure of George Washington Avenue (from the floating bridge to Abraham Lincoln Avenue), which will remain in effect until 6:00 am on Monday, March 18th.
The Ministry of Culture (MINC) states in a press release that the provisions have been agreed upon with the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT), the General Directorate of Transit and Land Transportation Safety (DIGESETT) and the Directorate of Transit and Urban Mobility of the Mayor's Office of the National District.
The Ministry of Culture recommends that citizens use alternative routes, such as Bolívar, Independencia, México, Benito González, Mella and Correa y Cidrón avenues, to facilitate mobility during the celebration of the most popular festival of Dominican culture.
This measure responds to the purpose of streamlining traffic, considering the high volume of vehicles circulating on George Washington Avenue, as well as on the internal roads of the Colonial City.
Dedicated this year to the province of San Cristóbal, the National Carnival Parade will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will bring together the best troupes from all over the country.
In this edition, the kings of the celebration are the artist and designer Luis Rivas and the communicator Jatnna Tavárez, both chosen for their extensive career in the field of art and entertainment, and their recognition on local and international stages.
