Construction industry leaders from La Altagracia present their case

Construction business owners from La Altagracia present challenges to the Minister of Labor in the Eastern Region

SANTO DOMINGO. – Construction business owners grouped in the “Tourism Business Alliance of La Altagracia Province” recently met with the Minister of Labor, Luis Miguel De Camps, to discuss critical issues impacting the development of the Verón Municipal District in that region, as well as other matters related to the sector they represent.

During the meeting, held at the Ministry of Labor headquarters, business leaders also expressed their concerns about migration issues, a possible labor reform, and the need to promote technical and professional training in the Eastern Region to strengthen the skills of human capital, according to a press release.

The meeting was attended by the senator of La Altagracia province, Rafael Duluc, the president of the Alliance, José Sánchez, Grupo Noval, Villas Marina, Aybar, Duluc & Asociados, City Place, Cana Rock, Cayacoa, Bestinpro and Sinercon.

According to the press release, these groups account for more than 60% of the investments in Bávaro-Punta Cana, and have established themselves as a key driver of economic growth in the region and the country.

“To date, members of the Tourism Business Alliance have developed more than 65,000 rooms in the area, with plans to build approximately 100,000 additional rooms over the next seven years, representing an estimated investment of more than $12 billion,” the report highlights.

It emphasizes that the Coalition reaffirms its commitment to working together with the authorities and other sectors to guarantee sustainable and competitive development in the most important tourist region of the Caribbean, as represented by the destination of the eastern Dominican Republic.

At the beginning of this month of November, the representatives visited the National Palace, where they met with Vice President Raquel Peña, to whom they raised the urgent need for road infrastructure and works to be built in the east of the country that strengthen and address the demands of growth experienced in the main tourist center of the Dominican Republic.

“Our vision is to ensure the sustainable maintenance of foreign and local investment, both in the real estate and tourism sectors, so that it continues to be a pillar of support for the hotel industry, tourism and national economic growth,” the businessmen said.
