SANTO DOMINGO. - Grupo Piñero, a multinational company with almost 50 years operating in the tourism sector, and Huawei, a global provider of information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, signed an agreement to improve connectivity for guests visiting the hotel firm's resorts.
The collaboration agreement will allow the implementation of GPON and WiFi technology in the Cayo Levantado Resort, Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro, Bahia Principe Luxury Samana, Bahia Principe Grand Turquesa and Bahia Principe Grand Aquamarine hotels, according to a press release.
He explains that the agreement was signed by Mateo Ramón, Chief Information Officer of Grupo Piñero and Jack Heliang, CEO of Huawei Enterprise Business Spain, with the assistance of Ma Haixu, President of ICT Strategy & Marketing at Huawei.

Through this alliance with Huawei, the Piñero Group will have a WiFi network and GPON technology in a selection of its resorts in the Dominican Republic, thus ensuring the best possible connectivity for all its guests, implementing GPON technology (Gigabit Passive Optical Network).
The group explains that GPON is a telecommunications access technology that uses fiber optic cabling to reach the end user. "This technology creates converged IP-based broadband networks, maximizing assets and allowing more services to be offered over the same infrastructure," it emphasizes.
He adds that its main advantages are a greater cable distance, better service quality, and increased user navigation security.
“This agreement will allow us to incorporate the necessary infrastructure to deploy solutions that will improve the customer experience, essential for the path we have begun towards digital transformation,” explained Mateo Ramón, CEO of the hotel group.
