SANTO DOMINGO. -The Airport Department (DA) reported yesterday, Monday, that the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources granted it the environmental permit license for the construction and operation of the Cabo Rojo International Airport, in the province of Pedernales.
This is Environmental License Number 0492-23 which, in its specifications, places the air terminal project on the Oviedo-Pedernales road, specifically in the Los Tres Charcos section, in the municipality of Oviedo.
The document also establishes a surface area of 13,978,821 square meters for the project, as well as a construction area of 413,500.00 square meters, as planned.
"This is a crucial step to continue with the execution of this important project, which is already in the final review stage of its executive project," said Víctor Pichardo, executive director of the DA.
Pichardo noted that the work in Pedernales "continues according to the established schedule."
He cited the soil survey work for the project's runway areas, taxiways, and aircraft parking platforms, "which are nearing completion, including pavement designs, which will allow us to begin the bidding process for the construction of these facilities.".
It was reported that the perimeter fence has already been put out to tender and is in the proposal evaluation stage.
The Cabo Rojo International Airport is part of the ambitious tourism project promoted by the government, which involves the construction of a series of infrastructure works, within the public-private partnership strategy, to develop the tourism industry in the south.
