The measure excludes residential users and applies from the December 2025 billing cycle.
The Santo Domingo Water and Sewerage Corporation (CAASD) reported that its Board of Directors approved a tariff update aimed exclusively at commercial, industrial and government customers, a measure that has no impact on residential users.
The entity explained that the decision was adopted after a technical and financial review process, in which the current production costs of the service were evaluated, as well as the expansion, maintenance and continuous improvement plans of the drinking water system.
According to CAASD, the rates applicable to these segments had not been updated since 2003, accumulating more than two decades without variation.
The approval of the adjustment was formalized through the 2nd Resolution No. 001-2025, issued by the CAASD Council in December 2025.
The institution specified that the new values began to be reflected from the billing corresponding to the month of December 2025 for commercial, industrial and government customers, while residential rates remain unchanged.
Regarding late payments, CAASD indicated that its service regulations include a late payment policy applicable to contracts with payment delays, clarifying that this provision is part of the current regulatory framework and is not linked to the approved tariff adjustment.
Regarding billing, the entity indicated that the rate is calculated based on consumption measured in cubic meters, where one cubic meter is equivalent to 264 gallons of water.
For residential users, the cost remains at RD$6 per cubic meter, equivalent to RD$0.022 per gallon, while for commercial customers the cost is RD$0.079 per gallon.
He indicated that increases in the billed amount may be associated with internal leaks, especially in customers with installed meters.
He also explained that the homes are classified from R1 to R6 according to their social condition.
Although the price per cubic meter is the same in all residential categories, what varies is the basic quota assigned to each one.
The CAASD reiterated that the tariff adjustment is part of the work plan that the entity is implementing to strengthen the quality, continuity and efficiency of the drinking water service, for the benefit of the population of Greater Santo Domingo.
