In Mao, President Luis Abinader led the inauguration yesterday, Wednesday, of the Gregorio Aracena bridge over the Bogaert canal, whose investment was 13 million pesos, and which has a length of 12.40 meters and a width of 16 meters.
Deligne Ascención, head of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), said that the construction of the project had been demanded by the residents of the region because it left hundreds of homes on both sides of the canal isolated.
He noted that in Valverde province, the MOPC is reconstructing Benito Monción Avenue, a project where work is not progressing well, until the INDRHI first concludes a situation.
He announced that work will begin on the Mao-Contra reservoir road, and that sidewalks and curbs are currently being built, as well as the paving of a large number of sectors in different communities.
“This is a crucial project for the daily lives of these communities, especially in the Enriquillo sector, here in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Mao. This bridge serves as an alternative route for the Enriquillo sector and the Yerba de Guinea and Los Bonilla neighborhoods,” stated the Minister of Public Works.
He explained that the new bridge also helps improve connectivity in peripheral rice-producing areas, facilitating the export of agricultural products from Las Hortensias and other neighboring communities.
He argued that it will improve the transportation of the residents of the area, since it is located on one of the main roads of the municipality of Mao, serving as a link between some important buildings, such as the Santa Cruz Cathedral, the Technological University of Santiago (Utesa-Mao Campus), the Novus Caoba Hotel, Don Chelo's Restaurant, among other commercial, educational and/or social places in the municipality.
The construction of the project was carried out by Constructora Malespín, “to whom I am grateful for their collaboration, as well as the supervisors assigned in the Northwest region, for their commitment and dedication to ensuring that this project was delivered without delays.”.
