Breaking the chains of procrastination

By Raquel Salas

Special for El Inmobiliario

Last week, we explored the GROW method together, a powerful tool that can guide us toward our deepest desires, both professionally and personally. However, I'd like to reiterate a bit today, because I know that procrastination can be a silent enemy that steals our peace and keeps us from achieving our goals.

Procrastination is something we all face at some point in our lives. It can manifest in many ways: perhaps you put off until tomorrow that call to a potential client that could change your career, or maybe you postpone updating your marketing strategies, thinking, “Today’s not the day.” But this behavior doesn’t just affect our productivity; it can also generate a cycle of stress and anxiety that impacts our mental and emotional health. When we postpone important tasks, we become filled with guilt and frustration, which in turn can lead us to avoid even more responsibilities.

That's why I believe it's important to recognize that procrastination isn't just a time management problem; it's a reflection of our beliefs and emotions. Often, the fear of failure or criticism paralyzes us and leads us to avoid action. But here's the key: it's precisely in action that we find growth and opportunity.

I want to invite you to read or reread last Sunday's article on the GROW method, if you haven't already. This approach is not only an antidote to procrastination, but also a roadmap to guide you toward your dreams.

To avoid getting stuck in that cycle of procrastination, it's vital to surround yourself with an environment that encourages action. Share your goals with colleagues or friends who support and motivate you to keep going. Accountability can be a powerful ally in the fight against procrastination. Think about having someone who asks you how you're progressing, someone who celebrates every small achievement with you. These practices will not only help you stay focused but will also remind you that every step counts.

Procrastination doesn't just affect your career; it can also have a profound impact on your personal relationships and emotional well-being. When you take action, you're not only advancing your real estate career, but you're also investing in yourself and your future. Every time you decide to act, you're sending a powerful message to yourself.

So, now is the time to leave procrastination behind and take that first step toward your goals and projects. As the famous Queen song says, "I want it all, and I want it now." Action is the bridge between your goals and your reality. Don't let procrastination hold you back.
