SANTO DOMINGO. - Banco BHD renewed its commitment to Puntos R, the national platform for environmental awareness and collection, in partnership with Grupo Ramos, Bepensa Dominicana – Coca-Cola and Tetra Pak.
This initiative, managed by Green Love, began in 2021 and consists of placing reusable waste collection stations located in Sirena stores, managing to recover more than 350 tons of recyclable waste, in addition to promoting the culture of recycling in the country.
Josefina Navarro, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Social Responsibility at Banco BHD, stated that “at our institution, environmental protection is a commitment we have established internally by developing best practices for waste collection and sorting, involving our staff. With this agreement with Puntos R, we continue to invest in a greener future, with the aim of reducing our environmental footprint.”.
The 350 tons of recyclable waste recovered translate into real benefits for the planet, encompassing 591 trees conserved, 10 million liters of water protected, 1.1 million kWh of energy saved and 328 tons of CO₂ avoided.
The renewal of the agreement was led by Alicia Puello, second vice president of Corporate Communication of Banco BHD; Iván Mejía Alberti, executive president of Grupo Ramos; Juan Roberto Amell, director of Corporate Affairs of Bepensa Dominicana; Jorge de los Santos, environmental consultant of Tetra Pak, and Lorna Aquino Volquez, manager of Green Love.
Navarro explained that since 2019, the bank has had waste sorting stations at its central and administrative offices, and since 2022 it has started with the BHD Green Points, which are stations for the reception of reusable waste from the employees of its four main locations in Santo Domingo and Santiago.
With the agreement with Puntos R, Banco BHD will continue to support the establishment of voluntary collection points for recyclable materials in the provinces of Santo Domingo, Santiago, La Altagracia and La Romana, with the purpose of contributing to the preservation of the environment and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Puntos R project has 11 stations in Sirena stores and the technical support of Green Love as an environmental manager, which is in charge of waste management.
