SANTO DOMINGO – As part of its efforts to promote a cybersecurity culture, Banco Popular Dominicano joins other organizations around the world to celebrate Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October with virtual seminars, educational publications, and a fictional podcast, with the goal of bringing cybersecurity prevention to diverse audiences.
Thus, the financial organization will conduct several webinars to promote best practices among stakeholder groups that may be most affected by cyberattacks, such as journalists and small and medium-sized enterprises.
On Thursday, October 19, at 6:00 p.m., experts from Banco Popular's Information Security Department will discuss how journalists can avoid being vulnerable to cyberattacks, with a talk titled "Journalism Proof Against Cyberattacks." On Tuesday, October 24, at the same time, the bank's professionals will explain best preventative practices and what to do in case of a cyberattack to their SME clients, with a talk titled "Cybersecurity Made Simple for SMEs.".
Fiction podcast
In addition, this month, Popular will broadcast the fiction podcast “Red Alert: We’ve been hacked!”, an innovative four-episode series, produced by World Voices, where various Dominican companies must face a scenario of security attacks and frauds, originating from the bad practices they adopted.
Throughout the month, as part of its ongoing educational initiative “Security Tips”, the bank will be sharing valuable content, recommendations and advice with its customers and social media followers through its social networks, its blog on the website Popularenlinea.com/SecurityTips and email.

In this regard, the Vice President of the Information Security Area, Mr. Diego Laverde, said that “at Popular we are committed to a preventative culture as a key element, because the field of cybersecurity has changed drastically in the last decade: cybercriminal gangs are more sophisticated and every day new cyber threats emerge that target organizations of all sizes and all kinds of people.”.
According to cybersecurity industry data, a cyberattack occurs every 39 seconds worldwide, and it is estimated that 95% of security breaches are caused by human error.
