SANTO DOMINGO. – Banco Popular Dominicano and the National District Mayor's Office (ADN) inaugurated the renovation of Jardines Los Cerezos park, located in the Los Jardines del Norte community, a space that will benefit more than 10,000 residents of the area, who now have a green area for recreation.
For the renovation of this urban environment, Banco Popular made a contribution of RD$22.1 million, an investment aimed at improving 5,100 square meters, with a focus on security and the creation of sustainable green spaces for the community, in collaboration with the Mayor's Office of the National District.
José Mármol, Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications, Reputation, and Responsible Banking for Grupo Popular, expressed his hope that Jardines Los Cerezos Park will become the heart of the community and a haven of peace, noting that "this is the tenth park we have inaugurated with the Mayor's Office of the National District. It is a new source of hope and a testament to our shared purpose of doing great things that improve the quality of life for families.".

The park has new children's play areas, a gym, protective fencing, and recycling points. (EXTERNAL SOURCE).
The mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, thanked Banco Popular: "There are no words to express to Banco Popular what the trust they place in us means and how that trust translates into a willingness to continue working for the benefit of Dominicans, with us being one of their great allies.".
On behalf of the Los Jardines community, its co-manager and president of the Neighborhood Association, Mr. Ricardo Reyes, emphasized, "We thank Banco Popular, an institution that has provided its full support and commitment to make this project a reality. Today, the residents of Jardines del Norte are filled with joy to receive another project of great importance to our community.".
The renovation of Jardines Los Cerezos park is part of a public-private partnership between Banco Popular and the National District Mayor's Office to revitalize these green spaces in the city. It joins other revitalized parks in the capital, such as Mirador Sur, Buenos Aires del Mirador, Rosa Duarte, Villa Francisca, Las Praderas, Velazcasas, Cristo Libre, El Pedregal, and Los Girasoles.
Safety and accessibility
Engineer José Hernández, Vice President of Engineering and Maintenance at Banco Popular, highlighted the renovations made to the park, designed to provide greater comfort for its visitors. The new facilities ensure universal accessibility and include improvements for inclusion.
The green space also features inclusive children's play areas, suitable for all ages and surrounded by protective fencing for the safety of young children. In addition, an outdoor gym has been added to promote an active and healthy lifestyle.
The landscaping was renovated and a sustainable irrigation system was installed. In addition, as part of the sustainability initiatives, recycling points were added, promoting a clean and responsible environment.
Opening Ceremony
During the inauguration, the following were present: Mr. Hipólito Mejía, former president of the republic; Mr. Stalin Alcántara, vice mayor of the National District; Mr. Manuel Núñez, deputy for the National District; and Mr. Yolanda de la Rosa, director of Innovation and Special Projects.
Representing Popular, the inauguration was attended by Mariel Bera, Vice President of the Corporate Relations and Responsible Banking Area of the Popular Group; Leonte Brea, Vice President of the Business Area Metro West Zone and Commercial Channels; and Esteban Martínez-Murga, Vice President of the Corporate Communication and Reputation Area.
