SANTO DOMINGO – The Dominican Republic Hotel and Tourism Association (ASONAHORES) presented an award to the Tourism Cabinet, represented by President Luis Abinader and Minister of Tourism David Collado, for the record recovery the sector has experienced following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The award was presented at the organization's 60th anniversary celebration, where past presidents of ASONAHORES were also recognized for their contributions to the tourism sector.
The president of ASONAHORES, Rafael Blanco Tejera, stated that tourism is the fastest growing sector of the economy and that this recovery would not have been possible without the timely implementation of appropriate health policies in the country, as determined by the tourism cabinet and carried out jointly by the public and private sectors.

“Today we celebrate the 60th anniversary of our ASONAHORES and we do so at the best moment of our sector's recovery, with record tourist arrivals, extraordinary hotel occupancy, job restoration, and we are excited to work hand in hand with President Abinader, Minister Collado, and his entire team, in the implementation of the policies that have allowed our country to become the leading destination in the region in tourism recovery,” said Blanco Tejera.

The event was attended by most of the former presidents of ASONAHORES, who were introduced by the association's executive vice president, Andrés Marranzini Grullón, and who were awarded a medal of merit in recognition of the work they did to make tourism the main sector of the national economy today.
“In these 60 years we have seen how tourism has gone from being a dream to being the main sector and engine of our economy, and these past presidents whom we recognize today are the living expression of entrepreneurship and tireless work to position our tourism industry as a leader in the region and the Dominican Republic as one of the main destinations in the world,” said Marranzini Grullón.
During the event, both Blanco Tejera and Marranzini Grullón reviewed the main milestones they have achieved in Dominican tourism to place it in the position it holds today.
