And when will we achieve parity?

Launching a media outlet, even a digital one, with rigorous standards where responsibility, commitment, and ethics prevail is not an easy task, even if it seems so at first glance, especially when it involves an area where there was no prior content history.

As the first newspaper of its kind, the daily work at El Inmobiliario presents a challenge every morning for those of us who have taken on the task of producing a high-quality, innovative, and engaging product. We want to look beyond the everyday real estate sector, to uncover its realities, to examine the people who inhabit it and their diversity.

One of the motivations for launching this initiative was the lack of external communication we observed in the sector. Despite its importance to the economy, real estate news is conspicuously absent from traditional media, and its activities are rarely reported. Our mission, of course, will always champion truth, usefulness, and the good intentions behind a product we create with heartfelt dedication.

And in that daily labor, we came up with the idea of carrying out this week a survey on the gender population in a group of real estate agencies in Santo Domingo, some of which extend their reach to various points in the country, through their subsidiaries.

The non-scientific results are hardly surprising. In numbers, women far outnumber men, but as always, the minority male population takes over management positions in most companies.

No official certifications are needed. History repeats itself time and again, in every space, on every line, in every office. Gender parity is absent, and in every instance, the measurements yield the same results of disadvantage for the female population.

In the short two months that I have been connected from this platform with the real estate industry, I have met remarkable warriors, who reaffirm to me once again the greatness of women.

And to be fair, as I like to be, I have also found loyal and long-standing contributors who have filled the pages of El Inmobiliario with their solidarity, collaboration, motivation, and helping hand. To all of them, our deepest gratitude.

However, this reaffirmation of the gender situation in all areas of our country tells us that there is still a long way to go. I recently attended an event at the invitation of an agency, and the stage for developers was full of men. We'll see how things are going in that area later, although at first glance I predict the same reality.

It's true that a position doesn't define you as a human being, but recognizing women's talent and abilities is a just acknowledgment and a debt that society still owes them. It's up to us to keep conquering the world.
