It includes a project of 577 luxurious rooms between villas and apartments.
SANTO DOMINGO.- Tourism Minister David Collado, along with businessman Alex Rodriguez, announced yesterday a one billion dollar investment that the former major league baseball player will make to boost luxury tourism in the Dominican Republic.
According to what was explained at the meeting, held at the offices of Miani de Rodríguez, the gigantic investment will add 577 rooms between villas and luxury apartments that will be part of the Amanera tourist development, Río San Juan, María Trinidad Sánchez province, located on the North Coast.
“It is an honor for me to be here in the offices of Alex Rodriguez and his partner to make a formal announcement of a one billion dollar investment in the Dominican Republic for a 577-room tourist development of villas and apartments in Rio San Juan, as part of the Amanera project,” Collado said.
He said that the Dominican Republic appreciates and values this investment from an enterprising Dominican like the former major league star.
For his part, the former baseball player commented that his mother spends more than 60% of her time in the Dominican Republic and that she is very proud that he makes investments in his homeland.
He described the project as excellent, after emphasizing that he has been working on it for seven or eight months with the Ministry of Tourism and the Presidency, and that it has "generated a lot of energy".
Collado highlighted that this investment is yet another demonstration of the confidence that the private sector has in investing in the Dominican Republic in the development of new market niches in national tourism.

"This investment is an unprecedented initiative for our country that will bring extraordinary development to luxury tourism in our country and for the northern region and the communities of Río San Juan and Cabrera," he emphasized.
For his part, the businessman and former baseball player stated that the Playa Grande project, with its new products designed for both Amanera and Discovery, will offer an ideal investment climate for tourism development.
"I love the Dominican Republic, it's my country, and being able to participate in such an iconic project that will attract the most influential people in the world to come to the DR and enjoy the exclusivity that Playa Grande offers and the warmth and good atmosphere that Dominicans offer," Rodríguez stated.
Playa Grande is a tourist development where the exclusive Amanera Hotel is currently located. It lies between Río San Juan and Cabrera, approximately 120 km east of Puerto Plata. Ranked as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world, its 1.5-mile length makes it one of the longest on the country's north coast.
Its white sands, fringed by coconut palms and rolling hills, are complemented by lush vegetation and several underground freshwater streams, creating a truly stunning coastal landscape worthy of being one of the world's finest beaches. The beach's powerful waves make it ideal for water sports like boogie boarding and surfing, attracting surfers from across the country who come to enjoy its waves.
