Airbnb reported that it has shared a set of fundamental rules for guests, with the goal of providing greater clarity to travelers regarding expectations for how hosts and their homes should be treated, which the company expects to be with respect.
In a statement, the company argues that the majority of Airbnb guests are travelers who treat hosts' spaces as if they were their own homes and respect the communities in which they stay.
He adds that, however, the Airbnb team continues to work to help ensure that every stay is a positive experience for hosts, guests, and neighbors.
"Furthermore, these simple rules also aim to provide peace of mind for hosts and cover topics such as cleanliness, noise, potential damage, tobacco use, and authorized guests, among others. Airbnb believes these rules can contribute to more enjoyable stays for both parties, as well as foster a greater sense of connection," the statement reads.
He explains that as part of Airbnb's efforts to enforce these rules, since the end of June alone, the company has provided case-specific guidance and education to more than 50,000 guests.
The goal of this guidance, Airbnb explains, is to help guests take advantage of hosts' constructive feedback. Similarly, in cases where the company receives reports of serious or repeated violations of these rules by a guest, Airbnb may take various actions, including suspending or deleting accounts from the platform.
"These efforts build on the company's work to promote positive experiences through Airbnb, and also include the introduction of transparent check-out instructions, displaying the total price, and removing or suspending thousands of listings through its accommodation quality system.".
The company states that the accommodation quality system continues to provide hosts with practical guidance on how they can improve, and in cases where repeated or serious violations of the fundamental rules that hosts must comply with are reported, listings may be removed from the platform.
“Airbnb teams are constantly looking for ways to support our community in having extraordinary stays. While issues are rare, we believe clear rules are important to help set expectations and promote positive experiences for hosts, guests, and neighbors alike,” said Tara Bunch, Airbnb’s global chief operating officer.
The company said it is committed to collaborating with hosts, guests, governments and communities to promote responsible travel that is socially and economically beneficial.
