Airbnb introduces new technology to prevent unauthorized parties

Airbnb announced yesterday, June 2, 2023, the launch of a new reservation monitoring technology to prevent unauthorized parties. This technology will help identify high-risk guests and prevent irresponsible behavior. The implementation follows the positive results obtained in the tool's global pilot program, which saw a significant reduction in reports of unauthorized parties.

A statement from the platform states that through this new technology to identify potential risky bookings, the aim is to prevent - and ultimately avoid - unauthorized parties taking place in accommodations.

The new automated system will take into account various factors when making a reservation, such as guest reviews, trip duration, distance to the property, and whether the reservation is made on a weekend or weekday, among other considerations, says the Airbnb statement.

The rollout of this technology follows the global ban on unauthorized parties implemented last year. After the successful pilot program, the technology now being implemented in Spain is an updated and more robust version of the previous tool, which has been available since 2020.

Airbnb explains in the statement that since the measures to prevent unauthorized parties were implemented in August 2020, there has been an overall decrease of 55% in reports of parties on the platform over two years.

“We want to help hosts and are taking steps to eliminate bad actors and unwanted behavior on Airbnb. As the summer season approaches and more guests arrive, this new technology will help address some of the local concerns,” says Mónica Casañas, general manager of Airbnb Marketing Services, SL.

Airbnb is confident that this system will have a positive impact and contribute to its goal of reducing the risk of security incidents and property damage on Airbnb, whose launch adds to initiatives already implemented such as:

The global ban on unauthorized parties from last year, 2022.

The adoption of more restrictive measures at specific times of the year when there may be a greater risk of unauthorized parties, such as New Year's Eve.

The neighborhood helpline allows residents to speak directly to someone from the company about potential parties or concerns with any nearby accommodation.

The 24-hour protection line allows you to contact a specialized security team directly to request help, for example, to report an unauthorized party during an active stay.

A new safety feature for solo travel that aims to promote a safe experience for solo travelers.

Free noise sensors for hosts in Spain that help prevent and resolve potential problems, while protecting guest privacy.

Support for police investigations worldwide.

The safety tips they provide are for guests to consider when choosing a place to stay, interacting with other people, and avoiding online fraud.
