President Luis Abinader inaugurated the rehabilitation of a section of highway yesterday, Sunday, and also presided over the delivery of 300 apartments in Hato del Yaque, Santiago.
The rehabilitated work corresponds to the Duarte highway in the section from Navarrete to Montecristi, with an investment of more than 1,467 million pesos.
This project is an essential part of the Manzanillo Port Development Plan, according to a statement from the Presidency.
The president assured that this is a project that is part of a development vision, which encompasses not only the province of Santiago, but the entire Northwest Line, and that it is a joint effort to substantially improve infrastructure and facilitate access from Santiago to the communities of the region.
In this regard, he mentioned projects such as the Navarrete bypass and the planning of four lanes to the Esperanza intersection, which will further strengthen connectivity in the area.
The head of state highlighted the crucial role of the port of Manzanillo, driven by both the public and private sectors, which not only represents a center of economic development, but also a key point to facilitate exports, especially for the main free trade zones of Santiago.
“This is a clear vision for development, as we are doing in other areas of the country, which is yielding results now and will yield many more results later,” the president said.
The president expressed his gratitude to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for its constant support and commitment to the Dominican Republic.
This rehabilitation will not only significantly reduce travel times between the port of Manzanillo and the surrounding areas, but will also improve the competitiveness and socio-economic growth of the region.
Deligne Ascension
For his part, the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Deligne Ascención, explained that the rehabilitation of this 92-kilometer road constitutes an essential link to allow land connectivity of the entire Northwest region with the rest of the national territory.
“This project, which we are delivering with great satisfaction in the presence of President Abinader, has been completed in record time, with financing from the IDB.”.
The official announced that in the coming days they will deliver the initial advance of 14 million dollars to the company Solentache Bachy, which was awarded the contract for the construction of the port of Manzanillo.
He stated that the newly inaugurated project will reduce the operating and marketing costs of export products and agricultural production destined for large urban centers of mass consumption.
Delivery of 300 apartments in Hato del Yaque
The president also inaugurated 300 new apartments for the same number of families under the My Housing Plan Hato del Yaque.
This is the fourth phase of the Mi Vivienda Hato del Yaque project, undertaken by the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (Mivhed), bringing the total number of homes delivered in less than a year to 890. Only 26% of the 1,200 apartments the agency plans to deliver in this area remain to be completed.
The Mi Vivienda Hato del Yaque project has an investment of 2,796 million pesos, benefiting more than 4,000 people who lived in vulnerable conditions on the banks of ravines and rivers in Arroyo Gurabo.
