"This type of eco-friendly housing is meant to help people get used to living in harmony with nature and gradually change their lifestyle.".
SAN CRISTÓBAL. - President Luis Abinader yesterday launched the construction of 50 eco-friendly homes in Sainaguá, to benefit families affected by Hurricane George in 1998, as part of a series of projects worth more than RD$240 million.
The president highlighted that the idea for the project arose after his wife, First Lady Raquel Arbaje, learned about the situation in which families live in La Marina in this province.
Abinader said he felt more than overjoyed, because these families will see their dream of living in a decent home come true.
The president stepped down from the head table and went over to where the public was, to hug Mrs. Iris, who has been a refugee for 23 years since Hurricane George and who dedicated a poem to him.
“Those beautiful words are the fuel that makes us work 16 hours a day, with passion, transparency and efficiency,” the president said
He said that this type of ecological housing is so that people can get used to living in harmony with nature and gradually change their lifestyle.
Meanwhile, the head of Strategic Projects and Special Programs of the Presidency (Propeep), Neney Cabrera, said that those families located in shelters in La Marina were forgotten, abandoned and marginalized by previous governments.
The eco-friendly houses will have an area of 38.5 square meters, with a gallery, living room, dining room and kitchen, two bedrooms, a bathroom, front garden and patio.
Abinader also inaugurated the bridge that connects Cambita Garabitos with San Cristóbal, the Najayo high school, and broke ground on the construction of a funeral home in that area.
